Use this list to prepare business records before return preparation.

  • Prior-year federal and California business tax returns
  • Year-end profit and loss statement and balance sheet
  • Trial balance and general ledger, if available
  • Business bank and credit-card statements
  • Gross receipts and merchant processor statements
  • Inventory and cost-of-goods-sold records
  • Payroll reports, Forms W-2/W-3 and payroll tax filings
  • Forms 1099 issued or received
  • Fixed-asset purchases and dispositions
  • Vehicle and mileage records where applicable
  • Business loan statements and year-end principal balances
  • Accounts receivable and accounts payable detail
  • Shareholder or partner contributions, distributions and loans
  • Estimated tax and extension payment records
  • Federal, California, CDTFA, EDD or local notices
  • Ownership changes, new locations or material business changes during the year
